A Brisbane-based bottling plant had an energy assessment conducted, focusing mostly on boiler and waste heat recovery projects to reduce gas consumption, although solar and refrigeration were also considered to lower electricity usage.
There were eight energy efficiency and emissions reduction options considered, which combined would achieve an energy saving of more than 13,000 gigajoules (GJ) a year and emissions reduction of 1,380 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (t CO2-e). With a combined capital cost of $420,000, the measures would have a simple payback period of just 2.4 years.
A large-scale solar option was also explored. This would have a payback period of 8.3 years (after rebates) and deliver significant annual energy savings of 6,830 GJ.
